It's just not a race without candidates

The great Jerry Brown campaign tease thankfully appears to be coming to an end - the former governor has been telling reporters of late that he's going to be announcing "very, very'' soon.

Please, a brief moment. It's been hard to catch my breath.

But Brown's ever-so-thoughtful move to finally take the Democratic torch for governor has at least allowed members of the Republican Party to show that this primary campaign will have its share of humor.

In response to the GOP's daily e-mails chronicling the "Where's Jerry Watch,'' Brown was asked by the Sacramento Bee how he felt about the public ribbing. Brown's response: "It shows you one thing, that the Republican Party sure doesn't feel complete without me.''

And the official Republican response: "It's true, Jerry. You complete us.''

Now Tom Cruise has to get involved in the race. He just has to.
