It was a celebratory Tuesday for cyclers

The first bike lane in three years was officially striped Tuesday, and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition celebrated at a café with free bike valet.

An injunction three years ago prevented any modifications to bike lanes in The City without an Environmental Impact Report, which was released last week. The report's findings allowed The City to make some reversible modifications, but didn't lift the injunction entirely.

And for years, city officials and cyclers have been waiting for the injunction to be lifted to start making improvements and expand the system.

After a day of painting, the San Francisco Department of Public Works tweeted about the lane on Scott Street, saying it is “…a big step forward for Rights of Way Improvements in the City.’’
