Films from Belgium, Canada, Poland, Israel and Iran are competing for the Academy Award for best foreign language film.

"Bullhead," by Belgium's Michael R. Roskam, "Footnote" by Israel's Joseph Cedar and "In Darkness" by Poland's Agnieszka Holland are among nominees announced Tuesday at the Los Angeles headquarters of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

They are competing against "Monsieur Lazhar," from Canada's Philippe Falardeau and "A Separation," from Iranian writer-director Asghar Farhadi, which has already won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film.

Winners of the 84th annual Oscars will be announced at a Feb. 26 ceremony at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.
