Investigation intensifies in home-invasion killing

Police are focusing “a lot of attention” on a home-invasion robbery in a bright-orange house in the Sunset district, where police found a 44-year-old man dead from a single gunshot wound to the chest and nine other people bound Wednesday.

One of the bound victims, all of whom were not harmed, dialed 911 at 5:45 p.m. after two masked men broke into Ben Xiong Luo’s home at 2432 Moraga Ave., shot Luo, and stole an undisclosed amount of money and belongings, police said. Police said it was a home-invasion robbery.

The home has two surveillance cameras — one on the right side of the house at the top of the garage door and one at the front door on the left side — but police did not disclose any details of footage.

“We’re still very much in the preliminary stages of the investigation, and I don’t want to get into specifics,” police Chief George Gascón said. “We’re working it really hard. There’s a lot of attention going into this case.”

Sunset District Neighborhood Coalition Chairwoman Susan Suval said it was quite a shock for the relatively quiet neighborhood.

“We’ve had just a whole lot of marijuana farms busted and car scenes with people breaking into cars, but this is a surprise,” Suval said.
