Imogen Heap’s latest to be released one piece at a time

Curious about just how fast the music biz is progressing in the digital age?

Here’s how fast: Grammy-winning Brit Imogen Heap will be releasing her as-yet-untitled new album one song at a time online, in three-month increments. And she’s inviting fans to participate in the composition of the first track, now known only as #heapsong1.

Sound kinda “Blade Runner”-ish? Check out her futuristic timeline.

Today, she begins work on the seeds of sound, which folks can submit via Soundcloud on her site.

Tomorrow, you can submit words for her “wordcloud,” from which she’ll piece together lyrics. The next day, photos and art are welcomed (through Flickr), and the day after that, it’s time for image submissions through Vimeo.

On Friday, the middle section of the song will be revealed, and commentary invited. By Monday, the cut will be finished, with a first listen posted March 28, backed by a companion live remix by Tim Exile. And all the while, Heap will be blogging about her progress, and interacting with her audience online.

Sure, it’s a hive-mentality sort of thing. Just don’t forget that the brilliant Heap is your Queen Bee.
