Iceage spending their summer vacation on tour

Red-hot new Copenhagen outfit Iceage is undertaking its first extensive American tour this summer.

The tour began Friday, June 17 and will end Sunday, Aug. 21. It will make a stop in San Francisco on Monday, July 25 at The Elbo Room, with an in-store appearance at Amoeba the following evening at 6 p.m. It’s a hair-trigger-timed jaunt that was scheduled this way for a very specific reason — the members of Iceage are all still teenagers, and this is how they’re spending their summer vacation before heading back to Denmark to finish their senior year of high school this fall. Believe it or not.

It’s especially difficult to swallow given the remarkable maturity displayed on “New Brigade,” Iceage’s dissonant debut on What’s Your Rupture.

Only 24 minutes long, the snarling set falls somewhere between Fugazi, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, and “Entertainment!”-era Gang of Four, in two-minute skull-slammers like “Broken Bone,” “White Rune” and “Rotting Heights.” Along with Britain’s almost indescribable WU LYF, they’re one of the most arresting new outfits in this unusually rock-rich year.
