House Watch: NRCC buys a new round of ads, attacks Rep. McIntyre 

The National Republican Congressional Committee opened up a few new fronts and reinforced several old ones in a series of expenditures reported yesterday.

The data is below. But first, a few takeaways:

(NC-7) The NRCC is suddenly going after seven-term Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., who faces Republican Iraq veteran Ilario Pantano. No one else has played here yet, and I have not seen anyone else treat this race as a serious GOP pickup opportunity.
(AZ-1) The DCCC recently pulled the plug on Arizona, claiming that it’s candidates were doing fine. That’s one possible explanation — the other is that they’re doomed. We see today that the NRCC has not given up on ousting Rep. Ann Fitzpatrick, D-Ariz. Draw your own conclusions.
(MI-1) Very heavy spending for the cheap airtime in Bart Stupak’s district, all for ads against the state legislator who is trying to keep the Upper Penisula in Democratic hands. They’re trying to strangle state Rep. Gary McDowell in his crib. This district will probably become more Republican in redistricting, so it’s a good investment.
(WI-7) Ditto that for the $80k buy against state Sen. Julie Lassa, D. That kind of money goes a long way in Superior, Wis. The DCCC has also been advertising steadily against her GOP opponent, Sean Duffy (most recently last week), but spending smaller amounts.
(VA-9) Note the dual positive-negative ads against Rick Boucher and for his Republican opponent, Morgan Griffith.
(ID-1) No outside group has spent a dime yet against Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho.
(MI-15) Despite all of the chatter about Rep. John Dingell, D, being vulnerable, nobody is lifting a finger against him so far. Don’t forget: His district was drawn by Republicans to pack in as many Democratic voters as possible. It combines the most Democratic parts of two former Democratic districts, throwing liberal Ann Arbor in with Detroit’s southern suburbs. Dingell’s sudden panic probably has more to do with raising money than with any real threat of his being defeated.

  • $15,000 for an American Viewpoint survey.
  • $153,000 for media.

  • $67,000 for media
  • $15,000 for a Tarrance Group survey.

Against Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy, (PA-8)

  • $15,000 for an Ayres survey
  • $59,000 for media

Against Democratic Rep. Rick Boucher (VA-9):

  • $15,000 for an Ayres survey.
  • $48,000 for media
  • $48,000 for media in favor of his Republican opponent, Morgan Griffith.

Against Democratic Rep. John Adler (NJ-3):

  • $15,000 for a Fabrizio McLaughlin survey.
  • $51,000 for media.

Against Democratic Rep. Kathleen Dahlkemper (PA-3):

  • $15,000 for a Fabrizio McLaughlin survey.
  • $18,000 for a Public Opinion Strategies survey.
  • $97,000 for media.

  • $73,000 for media.
