House to probe state dinner crashers Michaele and Tareq Salahi

A House committee is launching an investigation into how an univited couple managed to crash last week's State Dinner at the White House.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., is holding a hearing on Thursday and he is calling the head of the Secret Service to testify as well as  Michaele and Tareq Salahi, who managed to meet the president and mingle with guests before the dinner started.

Thompson said the hearing "will focus on the breakdown in security arrangements on the evening of Tuesday, November 24, deficiencies in security planning leading up to the State Dinner, actions taken to correct the vulnerabilities and identify any violations of Secret Service policy or management failures at the agency."

The White House is conducting its own internal investigation into the matter.
