Hot fashion benefit at Horizon

Event organizer Shannon Hardisty calls Fashion Fights AIDS “a win-win situation for everyone involved.”

Not only does the show give up-and-coming Bay Area designers, models, hair stylists, make-up artists and production assistants a chance to showcase their work and gain exposure, it’s also a charitable event, kicking off festivities for AIDS Walk San Francisco on Sunday in Golden Gate Park and benefiting the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

The show, on Friday at Horizon Lounge in San Francisco, also features DJs and a performance by the dance group HyDef.

Among the participating designers are West Coast Leather, Rebel Voices, Danielle Pettee, Magdalena Trevor, BYANBE and Josephine Resort. Swimwear, urban men’s wear, cocktail dresses and even refurbished items will be shown.

Hardisty, whose entree into event producing began with modeling, says she particularly enjoys watching how the show’s participants are building friendships and working relationships. She says, “It is quite rewarding to see them all grow and develop their skills. I almost feel like a proud mother.”
