Honor quake anniversary by getting prepared

The imminent anniversary of San Francisco’s 1906 Great Earthquake and Fire, which occurred on April 18, has served as a reminder for families to prepare for the next big one.

Vicki Hennessy, executive director of the Department of Emergency Management, sent out a message to families encouraging them to spend time getting prepared for the “next one."

“Emergency preparedness and planning should be a part of our everyday lives,” she said. This can be as easy as buying a few extra canned goods and batteries the next time you’re at the market or making a family emergency plan over dinner.”
