Hillborough home burglary estimated at $100,000 loss

A home burglary that occurred Tuesday in Hillsborough is estimated to have cost tens of thousands of dollars in losses, police said.

The burglary in the 300 block of Alberta Way happened between 10:35 a.m. and 12:35 p.m., Capt. Doug Davis said.

The suspect entered the home by breaking a rear glass door with possibly a lawn or patio chair found in the backyard, Davis said.

The suspect stole various items including coins and jewelry from the master bedroom and upstairs office, then fled through the front door, according to Davis.

The total loss is estimated at approximately $100,000, he said. An alarm system is installed at the home, but it was not turned on before the burglary, Davis said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Hillsborough police at (650) 375-7470.

Police are also asking any residents on Alberta Way or Hayne Road with home surveillance footage to review their video and share any helpful tapes with the department.
