High Speed Rail Authority names CEO 

The state agency charged with building a high speed rail network appointed the North American president of a fast-train builder as its chief executive officer.

Roelof van Ark, 58, was appointed Thursday to lead the California High Speed Rail Authority.

Van Ark is President of Alstom Transportation Inc., the North American subsidiary of French Company Alstom SA, which manufactures fast trains and built Europe’s bullet-train network, the authority announced in a statement.

Van Ark will start his new job in June. His annual salary will be $375,000.
