High school teacher faces fines for helping students vote

DIM BULB: Florida high school civics teacher Jill Cicciarelli could face thousands of dollars in fines for helping students preregister to vote at age 18. Cicciarelli organized a school registration drive and unknowingly violated the state’s controversial new election law — which requires that third parties signing up new voters be registered with the state and submit all registration applications within 48 hours. The case roused much local indignation, including an angry protest from the county elections supervisor.
