Hewlett-Packard to create "smart" skin patch

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) has entered a licensing agreement with Irish medical device developer Crospon to create and market a drug delivery patch.

The patch will deliver medication intradermally, or just below the skin’s surface, using microneedles in a method derived from HP’s inkjet technology.

The patch can be designed to allow control of dosage timing, access to dosage history, patient activation mechanisms and safety protocols to prevent unsafe drug interactions, according to the companies.
