Herrera has last word on smart meters

City Attorney Dennis Herrera had the last word on Thursday in the ongoing battle with PG&E over the accuracy of smart meters.

Herrera filed his last response in his attempt to temporarily suspend the installation of the smart meters -- now. The City's petition asked the California Public Utilities Commission to, at the very least, halt installing these meters while an independent investigation looking into whether the meters are accurate is completed, according to the city attorney's office.

"Mounting evidence points to disturbingly high error rates with the devices," Herrera's office said. "Continuing to install Smart Meters despite concerns of customers does nothing to increase consumer confidence in this new technology."
