Herrera calls for Arizona boycott

City Attorney Dennis Herrera is calling on city policymakers to boycott Arizona and Arizona-based businesses in the wake of a “draconian” new anti-immigration measure signed into law by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday that criminalizes illegal immigration.

Herrera has offered to work closely with city departments and commissions to identify and terminate any contracts between The City and Arizona-based businesses, according to the city attorney’s office.

Herrera also offered the assistance of his office's attorneys in any legal challenges to the Arizona law.

The issue comes at a time when San Francisco is battling its own immigration controversy over its Sanctuary City Policy, which calls for reporting undocumented youth to immigration officials upon being arrested for a felony crime.
