Hello, espionage: U.S. military supercomputer lab buying China-made components

WHAT: The supercomputer lab that simulates operations for next-generation U.S. military aircraft, spacecraft and submarines has contracted to buy equipment made by Huawei — a Chinese telecommunications giant with close ties to China’s military.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: China’s intelligence agencies and military are widely suspected of secretly launching numerous major computer-network spying hacks against corporations and government agencies in the U.S. and many other countries.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: Five Republican Congress members are urging the Pentagon, the Energy Department and the SEC to re-examine the Huawei contract for its potential risks to national security from hidden bugging of the hardware.
