The man who was struck by a vehicle while crossing an Outer Mission street Wednesday has died, police said Thursday.

The victim was identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as 69-year-old Hector Arana, a San Francisco resident. Arana was struck by a Honda Civic about 6:30 a.m. as he crossed San Jose Avenue near Liebig Street, police said. Investigators do now yet know if Arana was in the crosswalk when he was hit.

The driver was traveling north on San Jose Avenue when the car hit Arana, police Officer Albie Esparza said. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

The driver of the Civic was cooperative with police, Esparza said, and very distraught.

Police have determined that the driver did not appear to be on drugs or intoxicated and that the incident was just a tragic accident, Esparza said. The investigation, however, is ongoing.
