Hearing set for man accused of causing miscarriage

An arraignment has been scheduled for a Storm Lake man who police say gave his girlfriend medicine that caused her to have a miscarriage.

Online court records show a hearing for 31-year-old Yoirlan Tome-Rojas is scheduled for Feb. 6 in Buena Vista County.

KTIV reports (http://bit.ly/zi7WeJ ) that Tome-Rojas is charged with conspiracy to commit non-consensual termination, assault while participating in a felony and assault.

Police say he secretly gave his girlfriend medicine that caused a miscarriage. They say Tome-Rojas obtained the medicine from someone in Florida and asked over the Internet how to use them.

According to police, the woman was unaware Rojas gave her anything until she discovered emails about the medicine.

A telephone message left for Tome-Rojas' attorney Friday was not immediately returned.
