Hearing added in San Francisco on proposed toll increases

While initially overlooked, San Francisco residents will now get an opportunity to speak with officials about a proposal to increase toll rates at seven Bay Area bridges.

In October, the Bay Area Toll Authority, a regional group that manages local bridges — excluding the Golden Gate Bridge — introduced the possibility of raising tolls on the spans by $1 to generate funding for seismic upgrades. One of the options includes a congestion-based scheme that would increase the toll on the Bay Bridge to $6 during busy traffic times.

Initially, BATA scheduled only three public hearings on the issue, none of which was slated to take place in The City. However, the agency has now added a meeting for Dec. 7 in San Francisco. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at San Francisco State University’s downtown campus on 835 Market St.
