Head-on crash briefly closes Hwy. 1

A pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic on state Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay on Monday afternoon, causing a head-on crash that sent two people to the hospital, a Half Moon Bay police sergeant said.

The crash was reported at about 1 p.m. on Highway 1 just south of Roosevelt Boulevard, Sgt. Mark Reed said.

He said it appears the pickup truck was traveling north when it veered to the left and smashed head-on into a southbound Volkswagen.

The driver of the pickup was apparently not buckled up and was ejected, Reed said. Both drivers, who were alone in their cars, were taken to a hospital.

The roadway was shut down while emergency crews responded to the scene. All lanes reopened within an hour.
