Harding Park could be renamed if takeover goes through

A subsidiary of the PGA Tour that brings the President’s Cup and other major golf events to The City’s star golf course, Harding Park, could take over and rename it.

The subsidiary, Tournament Players of California, would swap with KemperSports after its seven years of management of the course named after President Warren G. Harding.

The new agreement would not require Rec and Park to pay the $192,000 a year management fee as it does now for KemperSports. However, instead of Rec and Park netting all the revenue from tee-offs, it would give TPC 25 percent.

Here’s the 61-page lease agreement that commissioners are scheduled to vote on at their meeting Thursday. Then it would go to the Board of Supervisors.

However, item 6.10 in the lease, “Branding and Marketing,” states that The City will work with TPC on a new name since the subsidiary uses its name on all its courses.

The lease suggests “TPC San Francisco at Harding Park” or another name determined by The City and TPC.
