Gunman robs Encinitas store, blasts open safe

San Diego County authorities are hunting for a masked rifleman who shot his way into a safe at an Encinitas market.

Sheriff's Sgt. William Dreyer tells U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/wtQuJI ) that a masked man with a rifle shot out the front door of the Sprouts Farmers Market at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Dreyer says the man blew open the locked door of a back office, shot open the safe and fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

An employee in the store called 911. The three workers in the store weren't hurt.
