Gunfire erupts in Mission Bay, Bayview

A 39-year-old man was seriously wounded in a shooting outside a dance cafe in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood early Sunday morning, a police spokesman said.

Officers received a call at 1:41 a.m. of a shooting victim in the 200 block of Terry A. Francois Boulevard, police Officer Samson Chan said.

The victim and the suspect had apparently engaged in a verbal altercation inside of Jelly's, a restaurant and dance cafe on Pier 50 along Terry A. Francois Boulevard near Third Street, Chan said.

The argument escalated, and the men stepped outside into a nearby parking lot, where the suspect shot the victim once in the chest.

Medical units responded at about 1:45 a.m. to the area and the victim was transported by ambulance to San Francisco General Hospital shortly before 2 a.m., a San Francisco fire dispatcher said.

The victim's injuries are believed to be life-threatening, Chan said.

Police do not have a suspect in custody and have not released suspect information at this time pending the ongoing investigation.

Chan said that although it appeared that numerous witnesses were on the scene, none has come forward with information at this time.

Witnesses and others with information about the shooting are asked to contact police via the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-444 or by texting TIP411.

In an earlier incident, a man was shot by his friend in San Francisco's Bayview District late Saturday night, police said.

The 49-year-old victim apparently had been arguing with his friend at about 11:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Revere Avenue when his friend turned on him and shot him in the leg, a police dispatcher said.

The wounded man made his way to San Francisco General Hospital on his own, and police said his injuries are believed to be minor.

Police said they have not apprehended the 38-year-old suspect. The shooting is not related to the Mission Bay incident, police say.
