“Lucky 13!” Capt. Paul Chignell declared at the top of Bayview Police Station’s newsletter released Monday. He wasn’t talking about the hip Market Street dive bar, but rather the number of guns confiscated by cops in the Bayview in the past 30 days.

“Removing guns from the streets of the Bayview is our highest priority,” he said.

The latest arrest happened Sunday in the 1100 block of Palou Avenue, police said. Cops responded to the scene of shots fired in the 1400 block of Hawes Street near Shafter Avenue at 7:46 a.m. after a machine gun- fueled drive-by, police said.

Victims in the area told police that as they were driving away from the block, another car drove up with a large gun sticking out of the window.

No one was injured in the shooting, but two vehicles were riddled with bullets.

Witnesses told police they saw the suspects running up a fire escape in the 1100 block of Palou Avenue. One suspect was then seen leaving an apartment. He is a known gang member, police said, and he was sweating profusely even though it was chilly outside.

Four more individuals inside the apartment also were detained, police said.

In a closet, a loaded AR-15 assault rifle was found. The rifle was reportedly stolen in Sacramento, police said. Cops also found a loaded magazine for the rifle and a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun loaded with a high-capacity magazine, a gun that also was reported stolen.

The five suspects were arrested.
