Group ready for contentious hearing at San Francisco Police Commission

A hearing on Wednesday at the San Francisco Police Commission about how officers deal with the mentally ill is likely to draw a crowd.

A group of politicians and activists led by the Mental Health Association of San Francisco is planning on showing up and has hired on San Francisco public relations specialist David Perry to publicize the meeting.

The group has already demanded investigations and systematic fixes to the way police respond to incidents involving the mentally ill after officer-involved shootings killed three in 2010 and another man in a wheelchair was injured in January.

Keep an eye out for Monday’s San Francisco Examiner where we take a look at the effectiveness of a training program that was dropped in June.
