Green benefits of local workforce to be touted

Hiring locals can be good for the environment.

That’s the message that a local nonprofit, which lobbies city leaders on local workforce and clean energy issues, plans to start sharing at City Hall.

“We don't often discuss the environmental benefits of local hiring,” Brightline Defense Project founder Joshua Arce said in a statement released Tuesday. “But we will this year.”

Hiring members of communities that surround a construction project can reduce airborne carbon emissions that would be released from cars and other vehicles if workers must travel from further afield, according to Arce.
