Grant money will expand citizen emergency team

The South City Fire Department will accept a $9,540 grant today from the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company to expand the city’s Community Emergency Response Team program. The training is designed to educate and prepare regular community members to help during an emergency, teaching individuals to help out with disaster psychology and light search and rescue as well as fighting small fires.

BELMONT

Man may face charges for SUV accident at middle school

Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said he expects to make an announcement regarding whether charges will be filed against the Redwood Shores man behind the wheel of a 2004 Honda Pilot that plowed into a group of Belmont Middle School students on May 2. A report released last week by the Belmont Police Department said that no mechanical problems were found in the SUV that Mauro Yan, 70, was driving as he picked his granddaughter up from school.

Wagstaffe met with Belmont detectives and reviewed witness and victim interviews while researching the case.

SAN CARLOS

City could net $91 million in PAMF development deal

City staffers are working with the Palo Alto Medical Foundation to update a proposed developer agreement that could net San Carlos $91 million in payments of $630,000 or more over 50 years. That’s more than the city would have yielded under the original 30-year term, which offered payments of at least $782,000 over 30 years.

PAMF hopes to build a 91-bed hospital and medical center at 301 Industrial Road. Neither the project nor the agreement has yet been approved by the City Council. PAMF, as a nonprofit, would be exempt from paying property taxes if they build on the site.
