Former Seattle transit chief Grace Crunican was named the new general manager of the Bay Area Rapid Transit District on Wednesday.

The board voted 8 to 1 to award Crunican a $300,000 annual salary, with potential performance bonuses of $20,000 more. Her contract, which is for an indefinite length, has a one-year severance clause in the event of her firing.

Crunican served as the chief of the Seattle Department of Transportation and was a deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration under President Bill Clinton.
