Gov. Christie pulls out of regional cap and trade program

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has pulled out of a 10-state cap and trade scheme, known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, the Record reports.

Christie ultimately determined that the regulatory regime was burdensome to businesses and ineffective.

“It’s a failure,” Christie said, according to the Record. “RGGI has not changed behavior and it does not reduce emissions.”

The move is likely to further endear him to conservatives and bolster calls for him to enter the presidential race, an idea that he has repeatedly rejected.
