Goodyear mayor suffers mini-stroke

Goodyear's mayor has been admitted to Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix after suffering a mini-stroke.

Goodyear spokeswoman Nora Fascenelli says Mayor Georgia Lord's mini-stroke, or TIA, occurred Monday evening during a council meeting.

KNXV-TV reports ( that Lord felt ill, excused herself and was taken to a Goodyear hospital, where doctors performed an MRI and other tests.

Hospital officials suggested Lord be transferred to the neurological institute at St. Joseph's Hospital for a procedure to open a blocked carotid artery. Officials say it's a routine procedure with a quick recovery time.

Vice Mayor Joanne Osborne will serve as acting mayor until Lord is ready to return.
