Golden Gate Transit is expected to approve a $260,000 contract to finish installing a wireless Internet system in its bus fleet.

The transit agency has already signed off on the plan to provide free wireless Internet to its passengers. The daily operations of the system will be provided for no cost from FreeFi Networks.

However, Golden Gate Transit must pay for the installation of the wireless infrastructure. So far, $172,000 of the maintenance costs has already been approved. On Thursday, the transit agency’s staff is recommending an $88,000 expansion to that project to finish wiring all of the buses. The agency’s finance and building and operations committees will vote on approving the project expansion on Thursday.
