Golden Gate Bridge to release details of 75th anniversary blowout

Big plans are afoot for the Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th anniversary next year, and on Friday some big names will hold a press conference at the district headquarters to discuss details of the festivities on tap.

Larry Baer, team president of the San Francisco Giants, and Nancy Hellman Bechtle, chair of the Presidio Trust, will be on hand along with bridge district officials to give a rundown of all the plans for famous span’s 75th birthday.

The district has said that a series of events will celebrate the bridge’s anniversary, leading up to a two-day finale over Memorial Day weekend—May 26-27—next year. For the span’s 50th birthday, held in 1987, the district opened up the entire span for walkers, but bridge officials have already said a similar traffic shut down would not occur next year.

Friday’s press conference will take place on Friday—the 74th anniversary of the bridge—at 10 a.m. at the district headquarters on the south side of the span.
