Golden Gate Bridge District to discuss creation of history center

Although its interactive tourism program has been abandoned, the Golden Gate Bridge District still has plans to enhance the visitor experience at the iconic span.

At its Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Friday, the district will discuss plans to enter into a formal agreement with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to jointly develop a history center at the base of the bridge.

The proposed center is being heralded as the Golden Gate Bridge nears its 75th anniversary in 2012. The center would also complement exhibits currently under development at the bridge that are supported by the National Science Foundation.
