Gold Motel should not be overlooked

It’s another one of those names on a marquee that you could easily overlook — Gold Motel.

But take a second look when you see it at Slim’s next Monday, Feb. 28 — it’s actually the sunny new Cali-pop side project from Chicago artist Greta Morgan, of Hush Sound renown. And they’re backing a Best Coast-ish debut disc called, quite aptly, “Summer House.”

Morgan, nee Salpeter, literally changed her entire life to arrive at this new outlet.

When The Hush Sound recently shut down, the keyboardist left Chicago for Los Angeles, where she began attending concert after concert and basking in the Southern California vibes. She began penning similar-sounding jingles herself, and upon her return home she promptly committed them to tape with old pal Dan Duszynski (of This Is Me Smiling).

The duo soon became a quintet and issued “Summer House” at the beginning of (you guessed it) last summer. But you’ll have to wait until this autumn, however, for the followup, “Talking Fiction.”
