Giants place Casilla on DL, recall Kontos

DENVER — The Giants placed right-hander Santiago Casilla on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain and recalled George Kontos from Triple-A Fresno.

Casilla was injured running out a ground ball in the eighth inning of Wednesday night’s 5-1 win over the Rockies. Casilla stumbled over first base and fell to the ground in pain. He was helped off the field.

Casilla had an MRI on Wednesday night which revelead a Grade 2 strain, which is expected to keep him out approximately four weeks.

Kontos was originally recalled May 6 and pitched in one game before being optioned to Fresno on May 10. He is 0-2 with a 3.80 ERA in 14 games with the Grizzlies this season.

Matt Cain also injured his hamstring Wednesday and underwent an MRI. Cain has a Grade 1 strain, but he could still make his next start.
