Gavin Newsom endorses George Gascon for district attorney

Endorsements keep rolling in for San Francisco’s current district attorney in the lead up to the November election.

Last week, Kamala Harris, The City’s former district attorney, endorsed current prosecutor George Gascon in November’s election.

On Thursday evening, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom gave his endorsement to Gascon.

“I’m endorsing George Gascon for the same reasons I appointed him,” Newsom said in a statement. “George is a recognized national expert in law enforcement and has considerable experience running large organizations, but it’s his independence and unwavering commitment to fairness and justice that make him a great district attorney.”

Former Mayor Newsom appointed Gascon to district attorney earlier this year. Newsom also hired Gascon as San Frncisco Police chief in 2009.
