Gascón shakes up SFPD brass again

Police Chief George Gascón has shaken up the command staff of the Police Department yet again, sending Assistant Chief Kevin Cashman to handle administrative duties while Gascon’s former LAPD colleague Assistant Chief Jeff Godown will handle operations.

Cashman will be in charge of overseeing reforms being implemented at the crime lab along with other administrative duties, Gascón said Wednesday. Cashman was part of an email exchange with the District Attorney’s Office in November when issues about the crime lab surfaced, though there was no indication he did anything about it.

The shakeup also resulted in the promotion of Capt. Denise Schmitt to commander. The former captain of Taraval station, who raised the ire of medical marijuana advocates by saying dispensaries attract crime, will move to administrative services as well.
