Gascón explains ‘magnitude’ of crime lab scandal

Apparently, police Chief George Gascón has been accused of hyping the scandal behind the shutdown of the SFPD’s crime lab.

The District Attorney’s Office is considering whether to dismiss up to 1,400 drug related cases and the costs to retest a number of drug samples are already looking to top more than $100,000. But some folks at City Hall are looking at all the media attention as a way to secure a little extra funding during budget season.

To that, Gascón replied Tuesday: “Anyone who doesn’t see the magnitude of this problem is either blind or stupid.”
