Garcia nominated for state award

Superintendent Carlos Garcia has been nominated for a yearly Administrator of the Year award and could represent The City and San Mateo counties in the finals next year.

The Association of California School Administrators has been accepting nominations at a regional level – Garcia is in Region 5 with 26 districts in San Francisco and San Mateo counties – and will decide who will represent them by the end of January.

If he wins the Region 5 nomination, he will compete among 19 regions in the state for the award.

ACSA spokesman George Robinson said so far Garcia is the first and only superintendent in Region 5 to receive a nomination.

The award is an honorary one that means a lot in the administration community, but does not rake in any dough for the district, Robinson said.

“It’s more like recognition among his peers so they can say, ‘Hey, you have expertise,’’’ Robinson said.
