From civic to horrific: Woman flees violent car-invasion robbery

A San Francisco woman was assaulted and robbed while sitting in her car in the Civic Center area Sunday, police Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

The 23-year-old victim had stopped her car at Lech Walesa and Van Ness Avenue about 4:15 p.m. to ask for directions, Fong said, when a man in his 20s asked the victim for a cigarette. The man then asked the victim to go somewhere with him and she refused, Fong said. The creep jumped into her car anyway and took the keys out of the ignition.

The woman was able to retrieve her keys from the man, Fong said, but he then proceeded to punch her in the face several times before she ran away. He fled with her smartphone.

Police detained a man on a tip from a witness, Fong said, but the victim could not positively identify him as the suspect.
