  • Idaho's Snake River Canyon, which nearly took daredevil Evel Knievel's life in 1974, probably won't host a similarly rocket-powered stunt this year.
Snake River Canyon nearly killed daredevil Evel Knievel, and now it’ll have to wait a little bit longer to slake its thirst for blood.

Fox announced Wednesday that it won’t honor the 40th anniversary of Knievel’s rocket-propelled nosedive with a similar “Jump of the Century” stunt after all.

“Due to production timelines and budget concerns, we have decided to not move forward,” Fox said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fox’s TV special would have sent daredevil Big Ed Beckley and stuntman Eddie Braun over the 2,300-foot-deep chasm in a rocket-powered motorcycle and a plain old rocket, respectively.

“We are now seeking other media partners and we are undaunted by this development because it is in God’s hands,” Beckley wrote on his blog.

For a better way to honor Knievel, The Thing Quarterly is currently hosting a memorabilia exhibit in The City dedicated to the late daredevil.
