Former Tiburon resident injured in Tucson shootings

A former Tiburon resident and Reed Union School District board member was among those shot at a political rally in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday.

Susan Hileman, who was on the school board in 1998 and 1999, is in serious but stable condition and is expected to recover from her injuries, according to Ellen Mayer, assistant to Reed Union School District Superintendent Steve Herzog.

Herzog informed parents and staff in the district on Monday that Hileman had been injured in the shootings at Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ meet-and-greet with constituents outside a supermarket in Tucson.

Six people were killed and Giffords, who was shot in the head, remains hospitalized. Pima County sheriff’s officials said today that 20 people were hit by the gunfire.

“I know you join me in keeping Suzi, her family, and her friends in your thoughts as they struggle with this tragic event,” Herzog said in his e-mail to parents and staff.
