Former Pacific Exchange CEO dies at 61 

Phillip DeFeo, the former chairman and CEO of San Francisco’s Pacific Exchange, died Thursday in New Canaan, Connecticut. He was 61.

DeFea took leadership at the Pacific Exchange in 1999, and led it through a merger with Archipelago in 2005, creating the Archipelago Exchange. That exchange, on which DeFeo sered as a director, later merged with the New York Stock Exchange.

DeFeo is credited with creating the first truly electronic exchange, among other innovations.
