Forget discipline: Two cops quit

Two more San Francisco police officers accused of misconduct will avoid discipline through retirement.

The Police Commission on Wednesday will drop charges against two officers in separate 2008 incidents.

The backlogged disciplinary list at the Police Commission has been whittled down a bit since police Chief George Gascon took over the department (about 20 cases have been settled), but some officers are still using the waiting time to hand in their badge to avoid punishment.

Officers who retire in lieu of a disciplinary hearing do not lose their pension benefits.
