Foreclosures remain high statewide, locally

Foreclosures continued to climb in August in San Mateo County while they showed a drop from their June peak in San Francisco County.

While a report from Default Research showed foreclosure filings increased by 300 percent statewide compared to the same period last year, locally the trend was more mixed.

San Francisco County, which has had zero foreclosures for most of the past year, spiked up to 143 foreclosures in June before dropping back to 94 in August, a 30.8 percent decrease from July.

In San Mateo County, however, foreclosures have continued to climb, reaching a high of 182 in August. That represents a 16.6 percent increase from July and a 41.8 percent increase from last August, when there were 128 foreclosure filings.
