For San Francisco Giants' event planner, it's all about the rings

In her 25th season as a marketing and event planner with the Giants, Valerie McGuire has been coordinating Saturday’s World Series ring ceremony.

Did you ever think you would have to plan this particular event? I was hoping. That was always the goal. I don’t think I ever really thought about the ring ceremony until we got to this point and then it became a really big deal. I just hope it won’t be the one and only.

What is different about planning a ring ceremony compared to other events?
We have to go over the logistics of when the rings arrive and who is in charge of them. We’re bringing them in a motorcade. They’re obviously priceless.

What are some memorable Giants moments for you? The closing ceremony at Candlestick. That was definitely a highlight. The weather was amazing, which was unusual for Candlestick. And the opening ceremonies here [at AT&T Park].

Did you have anything to do with the introduction of Crazy Crab, the Giants’ hated ’80s-era “anti-mascot”? Crazy Crab was before my time.
