For eighth time in past nine months, Caltrain records increased ridership

While the agency may to have implement drastic service cuts and shut down several transit stations, at least Caltrain’s ridership numbers are continuing to improve.

The regional rail operator recorded a 4.7 percent increase in average weekday passengers during February, the eight time in the past nine months that Caltrain’s ridership went up. An average of 36,682 passengers traveled each weekday on Caltrain, an improvement of over 1,600 daily riders from February 2010’s totals.

February did see a drop off in on-time performance for Caltrain. After posting a 95.9 on-time rate in 2010, that performance dropped to 93.9 this year. Caltrain attributed the drop to mechanical malfunctions and two fatalities on the railway.
