Flight delays likely at SFO

Flights in and out of the San Francisco International Airport may be delayed up to 90 minutes today because of the wet weather, especially to and from the East Coast.

The National Weather Service expects close to an inch of rain throughout the Bay Area with heavier showers in the morning, then lingering through Tuesday.

The rain has prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to issue a ground delay program at SFO and several airports on the East Coast such as La Guardia in New York and Newark in New Jersey.

The ground delay limits the number of planes that can land, subsequently causing overall delays. It is effective all day.

After Tuesday’s light showers, it’s supposed to be dry until Saturday with temperatures in the 50s, according to the weather service.
