Is 'Evil Elmo' back in town?

The man who has been spotted posing for tourist photographs in an Elmo costume at Fisherman's Wharf -- and occasionally launching into obscenity-filled anti-Semitic rants -- may have found a new location for his act in Stern Grove, according to fliers posted in the area.

According to the Ocean Beach Bulletin, fliers were posted at Vicente Street and 29th Avenue near Parkside Square, and at Wawona Street and Crestlake Drive near Pine Lake. The notices warned that Dan Sandler, the "Sesame Street"-inspired impersonator who also sometimes goes by the name Adam, had been spotted in the area.

Sandler was previously seen in 2012 at the Richmond district's Rossi Park, where police escorted him away from a playground after he reportedly unleashed an obscene rant, and along Fisherman's Wharf. Prior to his stint in San Francisco, Sandler was known for delivering similar tirades in New York.

Although Sandler's criminal history includes an extortion conviction and a deportation from Cambodia involving a pornographic website called Welcome to Rape Camp, his Elmo act is not illegal.

However, San Francisco police are reportedly trying to locate Sandler. Ocean Beach Bulletin reports that "Evil Elmo" has been seen living in a vehicle in the Stern Grove area, and police are asking residents who see him to call (415) 553-0123.
